Facebook has officially changed its company’s name to Meta, short for Metaverse. Now, don’t worry, the app “Facebook” will still be called Facebook; along with Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the only change is the brand but is this signaling a more significant change for Meta? Let’s find out with this week’s social media round-up.

Meta has announced that Metaverse will be a virtual space, think virtual reality, where people can connect. According to NPR news, Zukerberg has said that “Building our social media apps will always be an important focus for us. But right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future.” Getting some skin in the tech game is a good idea, just take a look at Miami-tech.

So, it seems Meta has some big projects in the works, and I wonder what is causing Zukerberg to make such a drastic change? Perhaps it has something to do with the declining relevance of Facebook. It would be an exciting way to compete with TikTok seeing how Instagram Reels hasn’t generated the same amount of buzz as Tiktok. But, it seems that Facebook is saying, “If I can’t beat you at the game, I’ll create a new one.”

Now, let’s get to the LOLs and LMAOs because this tweet is hilarious. We all know how hard it can be to find a username, so it is only fitting that the partial-creators of this issue also have to jump the hurdle.

Shout out to Meta’s graphic designer or rather team of graphic designers. What a clever multi-use logo! What do you think?

The matrix comparisons are fair, but virtual reality has been around for a while and will only gear up from here. What do you think? Will Meta succeed or fail? Will another similar company do it better? I’m not sure yet, but the future is coming, and I’m excited about it. Anyway, that is all I have for this week’s social media round-up. Let me know what you think on social and as always, stay safe.
