Join Samra and me while we explore why appearance matters in business. Happy Finance Friday. I’m Bette Hochberger, CPA, CGMA. Today, I have my fantastic friend who keeps me looking great and young. Samra Vogel is an independent Mary Kay salesperson and has been for over 20 years. I’m sure she has many pink cars, which is cool too. Watch the video below to learn more!

Samra shares how she would never have expected to end up in such a female-driven atmosphere when she was growing up since her only siblings are males. Moreover, she was surprised even further by her love of reminding women to take care of themselves.

Samra shares that two things are essential when wanting to be camera-ready on zoom. When you’re in person, there’s an energy that’s felt. You gain a gut instinct about somebody because you’re in their space. And whereas on camera, being able to translate that energy comes in a couple of different ways. In-person “put together” could have been more glamorous, but because sitting home being dressed to the nines doesn’t necessarily translate. In this little zoom frame, how can we be the best version of ourselves? Not only in how we’re presenting ourselves but also in our appearance.

Looks and appearance do matter to some extent when we know that studies have proven that women who wear makeup earn higher salaries. It’s unfortunate, but it doesn’t have to be upsetting; it can be a motivator. It not only about the makeup, the clothes, but it’s also about confidence and personality. Samra and I agree that when we “look good, we feel good.” Looking good can seem superficial, but it aids in your confidence, which is not superficial.
