New Yorkers are still fleeing the state and moving to the sunshine state of Florida. Now, Floridians, for anyone who's been living here since I guess the pre-pandemic, we've seen this, we know. We know how little housing there is and how many drivers are on the road, but we have an official number now.

Today I'm going to tell you what tax planning is and why you need to tax plan if you want to save money on your taxes. The truth is when a client comes to me at the end of the year and has not done any tax planning, there is very little that I can do to help them save money. To avoid this situation, I recommend tax planning to all my clients.

Unpopular Opinion – Tax Refunds

By |2022-12-16T13:43:24-05:00September 2nd, 2021|Categories: Quickies with Bette|Tags: , , , , , |

Hi, Bette Hochberger or CPA, CGMA. And on today's Business Quickie, I'm going to tell you about an unpopular opinion that I have. So I know a lot of people really love getting tax refunds. There are all kinds of ads that say, "how to spend your refund, refund, refund, refund." People can't wait to get that refund check, but here's the big butt, why do I not like it? It's your money. You're not getting free money from the government. You're getting your own money back to you. So my unpopular opinion is don't create these huge tax refunds and don't think your CPA is amazing just because they get you a big tax refund.

We got to go out and do this very high-level Scout training called Wood Badge. It's a fantastic program. It's all about leadership, leading teams, leading yourself, which is where it starts. You learn a lot. It's a very intense week, with so many things. But one of the essential things that we talk about is how you can't do what you do because that's how you've always done it. Especially for us as accountants, we fall into a rut. We have a saying; it’s called SALLY, same as last year. It's our standard operating procedure to do what we've always done because why change things?

By |2021-08-02T18:03:22-04:00August 2nd, 2021|Categories: Quickies with Bette|Tags: , , |

Hi, I'm Bette Hochberger, CPA, CGMA. And today, we're going to talk about the Olympics because they're going on right now, and even though there's a bit of controversy around the games and some of the athletes, I like to bring it back to my favorite topic: taxes.
