Hi! I’m Bette Hochberger, CPA, CGMA. Growing a business is exciting—but let’s be real, it’s also overwhelming. Between managing clients, handling finances, building a team, and trying to plan for the future, it’s easy to feel like you’re just putting out fires instead of moving forward. That’s where clarity comes in. When you have a clear vision and strategy, you can stop reacting and start growing with intention.
Start with Your Vision
Clarity begins with knowing where you’re headed. Ask yourself: What do I want my business to look like in 1 year? In 5 years? Maybe it’s hitting a specific revenue goal, expanding your team, launching a new service, or creating more freedom in your schedule. Without that clear destination, it’s impossible to make smart decisions about how to get there. Don’t be afraid to dream big—but be specific.
Know Your Numbers
Once your vision is in place, it’s time to get real with your finances. A lot of business owners avoid this part, but knowing your numbers is non-negotiable if you want to grow. Review your profit and loss statement, cash flow, and balance sheet. Ask: Are we actually making money? Where are we overspending? What’s our most profitable service or product? Financial clarity gives you power—it helps you cut what’s not working and double down on what is.
Create a Roadmap
Clarity isn’t just about knowing where you’re going—it’s about knowing how to get there. Once you’ve looked at the big picture, break your growth into smaller, actionable goals. What do you want to accomplish this quarter? What resources or hires do you need to make it happen? Your roadmap might change over time (and that’s okay!), but having a plan in place helps you stay focused and on track.
Check Your Mindset
A huge part of business clarity is mental. Many entrepreneurs stay stuck because of self-doubt, fear of failure, or just plain burnout. When you’re constantly overwhelmed, it’s hard to make clear decisions. Take time to pause, reflect, and refocus. Sometimes that means outsourcing things that drain your energy, like bookkeeping or admin. Sometimes it means getting support from a mentor or consultant.
Don’t Go It Alone
The most successful business owners know they don’t have to do everything themselves. Whether it’s hiring a bookkeeper, working with a tax advisor, or bringing in a fractional CFO, outside support can provide the clarity and structure your business needs to grow. That’s exactly what I talked about in my YouTube video on Navigating Business Growth with Clarity. If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, it’s worth a watch.
Clarity Isn’t a One-Time Thing!
Finally, remember that clarity isn’t something you set and forget—it’s something you revisit as your business evolves. Your goals will shift, your numbers will change, and your role as a business owner will keep growing. Make it a habit to check in regularly with your vision, your financials, and your plan.
Because when you’re clear, you can move forward with confidence—and that’s how real growth happens.
I’ll see you next time!
